The first incarnation of the Porsche 912 was built between 1965 and 1968. It was introduced because Porsche felt there was too much of a price gap between the outgoing 356 and the new 911. The 912 was really a base model 911 with a 1600cc 356 engine, and outwardly was near identical to the 911. The car was offered at first as a Coupe, and a Targa option was offered later. The only significant modification was an increased wheelbase in 1967. The car was offered with a 4 or 5 speed gearbox. Porsche had constructed more than 32,000 of the Type 912 from April 1965 to July 1969.
This example is a 1968 Porsche 912 short wheelbase, presented in Polo Red with original Fuch alloy wheels. It has covered 75,000 miles and has matching numbers. It is a Californian imported rust-free car that is UK registered and MOT’d, with Porsche COA provided. The vendor purchased this vehicle from the importer in January this year.  Before that the car was registered to a gentleman in California,  who owned the car for many years.  The Californian certificate of title is in the documentation, along with a U.S registration card, and the U.K.  V5.  The vendor also has the Porsche Certificate Of Authenticity which shows that the car has original matching chassis number and engine number, and is also the original colour and interior trim.
The vendor states that the car is in excellent original condition, and the engine and gearbox are first class. The black vinyl interior is in great condition, with a rare wooden dash and steering wheel, and Blaupunkt radio. The car drives very well and is in regular use. It has just been serviced with new plugs, new electronic ignition, oil change/filter and gaskets, fuel filter, new fuel tank, and new gear linkage. The Webber carburettors have also been stripped, cleaned and serviced, with new gaskets.
The car is in excellent overall condition, both body work and mechanically. In good, mostly unrestored original condition.
